The ISHS icon identifies our office as situated within health and is representative of First Nations, Inuit & Métis students in addition to our relationship with non-Indigenous colleagues.
Elements used within our icon include the bear, infinity symbol, the sundog and the four colours.
The bear is often viewed as medicine for many First Nations across Turtle Island (North America).
The infinity symbol is historically used by many Métis and reflects the unity between two distinct cultures: First Nations and non-Indigenous people.
The Sundog is a symbol Inuit recognize for its reflection on the North and the environment.
The four colours of the bear represent the four races and further reflect the work of our office, which is the education, support, and knowledge translation of Indigenous Peoples health and healing practices between and among faculty, staff and students within health sciences at McMaster.
